At 12:28 p.m., firefighters responded to a house fire in the 1000 block of Brighton Cove Trail NE in Lawrenceville. Upon arrival, they found heavy fire in the garage and attic. Multiple hose lines brought the fire under control in approximately 30 minutes. During the search, one cat was rescued from a back bedroom, quickly brought outside, and treated with a pet oxygen mask. The fire caused extensive damage to the garage and attic.
The fire originated near a garbage can in the garage, and the cause is under investigation. The American Red Cross is assisting one displaced occupant. No injuries were reported.
