You don’t have to be a firefighter to make a difference in the Gwinnett community. Put your passion for fire safety and education to work! Check out the many ways you can get involved with GCFAAA for below mentioned Volunteer Programs.

Fire Extinguisher Training:

Fire Extinguisher Training

One-hour training course discussing the proper steps for use of a fire extinguisher involving digital and/or live fire demonstrations.

Car Seat Installation:

Car Seat Installation

Safe Kids Gwinnett County is led by Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services, which provides dedicated and caring staff, operation support and other resources to assist in achieving our common goal: keeping your kids safe. Based on the needs of the community, this coalition implements evidence-based programs, such as car-seat checkups, safety workshops and sports clinics, that help parents and caregivers prevent childhood injuries.

Home Safety Surveys:

Home Safety Surveys

Free smoke alarm installation provided for all Gwinnett County residents through a home visit. The survey involves conducting an interior and exterior check of the home to identify potential fire injury hazards.

CPR/AED Training:

CPR

American Heart Association-certified instructors provide overviews of CPR techniques, AED usage, and choking relief to raise awareness of cardiac-related emergencies and provide participants life-safety information. Classes are offered quarterly at Fire Headquarters.

Mobile Fire Safety House:

Mobile Fire Safety House

Teaching how to “get low and go” by crawling under artificial smoke and out of the Mobile home. The lesson also includes how to make a home escape plan for the family.

SafeSitter:

Mobile Fire Safety House

The SafeSitter program is a nationally recognized training course designed to equip young adolescents with essential skills for safely caring for themselves and younger children. The program covers a variety of topics including Basic Child Care Skills, Safety Skills, First Aid & CPR, Life & Business Skills and Behavior Management.
SafeSitter is a course designed to prepare students in grades 6-8 to be safe when they’re home alone, watching younger siblings or babysitting. The Instructor-led class is filled with fun games and role-playing exercises. Students will learn CPR, First Aid and Rescue skills. They will also learn child care, business skills and other life safety skills.

Citizen Groups:

Citizen Groups

Citizens Fire Academy is a nine-week program offered twice a year to residents, college students, and business owners in our county. Participants will experience the Fire and Emergency Services Department first-hand by learning about the organization, the services we provide and valuable fire and life safety information that increases knowledge of what to do in emergency situations. Participants will also have the opportunity to go through simulated firefighting and EMS scenarios, and witness life and work at the fire station.
