Hero Of The Day – Appreciations !!

We want to recognize an everyday hero here in our community for his selflessness and quick actions. Engine 19, Medic 19, and Battalion 4 personnel responded to a motor vehicle collision last summer where a civilian acted selflessly to help another resident in need. This good Samaritan heard a loud commotion near his home and investigated the noise, only to find a vehicle upside down and beginning to catch fire. After forcing the vehicle’s door open, this resident was able to pull the victim to a safe distance, where our crews provided further assistance. We’d like to thank this resident,…

Waterpool – Safety Tips

Waterpool – Safety Tips

It won’t be much longer until pool weather returns! Here are some helpful safety tips to keep in mind when enjoying the water with your family this year: Always wear a life jacket when on the water. Always watch children when they are in or near any type of water. Be mindful of inflatable or portable pools — these types of pools can also pose a drowning risk and are generally not separated by fencing on all four sides. Take a CPR course and know how to use rescue equipment in case you need to respond to an emergency. Stay…

Some of the most recognizable firefighter equipment includes our fire hoses, axes, and our protective gear. But have you ever heard of the Halligan tool? Created by New York Fire Department First Deputy Chief Hugh Halligan in 1948, his namesake tool has since become a multipurpose piece of standard firefighting equipment nationwide. The Halligan tool is used for striking down barriers, prying open windows and doors, breaking locks, and more to ensure that firefighters can rescue anyone trapped within a burning structure. 77 years after Deputy Chief Halligan’s original prototype, the Halligan tool is a standard piece of our department’s…

Celebrate a Gwinnett Father-Son Duo Quick Action On Fire

Celebrate a Gwinnett Father-Son Duo Quick Action On Fire

We want to celebrate a Gwinnett father-son duo who proved that even the simplest actions in a fire response can save lives. Last year, Company 30 responded to a house fire and learned that a neighbor helped ensure a quick response. A young resident saw the fire from his bedroom and told his dad, who immediately called 911. The father also alerted his household and neighbors before helping them evacuate. Thanks to the actions of this father and son, our firefighters were able to get to the scene quickly and contain the damage to the property. Even a few more…

FireFighters-Vocab — LearnTheLingo-06

We recently asked you what the definition of the term “Two on a Thief” is. And no, the “thief” in this instance isn’t going after a big bag of money. It’s going after H2O! When fighting fires, personnel will sometimes connect two hose lines to an appliance called "a water thief,” which then redirects or divides the volume of water as needed to respond to a growing fire. This officially creates “Two on a Thief!” Thank you for playing and we’ll see you next time for #LearntheLingo!
