When calling from a cell phone, tell the 911 operator your name, number, and the location of the emergency. Provide the street name, landmarks, mile markers, etc., for context. The What3Words app is also a great tool if you don’t know where you are.
If you dial 911 on a traditional wired phone but can’t speak, leave your phone running off the hook. Our operators can track your location and respond to the scene. All noises heard over the phone can also be used to help determine the most appropriate response.
All Gwinnett County 911 operators are trained to use special telecommunications equipment to quickly and efficiently respond to residents who are hearing impaired. You can also send a text to 911 when voice is not possible.
