How to use a fire extinguisher correctly can go a long way in preventing the spread of a catastrophic fire. Need to know what is PASS ??
If you ever need to use one, remember to PASS! If you can memorize PASS, you’ll know the four steps needed to properly use a fire extinguisher in an emergency.
- First, Pull! Pull the pin, which will allow you to use the extinguisher handle.
- Next, Aim! Aim at the base of the fire to attack the fuel or material that’s feeding the flames.
- Next, Squeeze! Squeeze the top handle of the extinguisher
- Next, Sweep! Sweep it left to right to release the firefighting agent.
Move slowly toward the safest exit while doing so.
Keep an eye on the area in case the fire reignites after it’s been put out.
Remember to call 911 so we can check for any potential remaining fire extensions or heat on the scene that you may not be able to see.
