January is Firefighter Cancer Awareness Month, a time to recognize the increased cancer risks firefighters face in the line of duty, and the importance of prevention, protection, and early detection. From fire suppression to EMS response, exposure to hazardous substances can happen on any call. Our firefighters, EMTs, and paramedics work year-round to reduce risks through proper gear use, decontamination practices, and health monitoring, all to stay ready to serve the community. This month, we honor those affected and reaffirm our commitment to safety, awareness, and long-term health for our first responders.

Save the date! Join us and Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful for Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on Saturday, February 7, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds in Lawrenceville. Safely dispose of up to five containers of household hazardous waste items — completely FREE! The Walk for Peace has officially entered Gwinnett County! The monks are currently traveling northbound on Five Forks Trickum Road toward Rockbridge Road, escorted by Gwinnett County Police. Those wishing to support and witness the monks along their journey may do so along Rockbridge Road, beginning after Pine Circle. The monks will remain on Rockbridge Road until reaching E Park Place Boulevard. The monks will stop to eat lunch at Walmart, 1825 Rockbridge Rd, Stone Mountain. A portion of the 2,300-mile Walk for Peace by Buddhist monks and their dog, Aloka, will arrive in Gwinnett, Wednesday, December 31. Their journey…
