BioLab Explosion (RockDale) – Updates

A chemical plant fire in Rockdale County released chlorine and hydrochloric acid into the air, leading to a thick smoke haze and strong chlorine smell in neighboring Gwinnett County on Sunday. Gwinnett County emergency services responded to 179 air-quality related calls, but local officials assured the public there is no immediate health risk. A malfunctioning sprinkler head at BioLab in Conyers caused water to mix with a water-reactive chemical, leading to a fire and the subsequent smoke plume affecting the area. Around 17,000 residents near the site of the chemical fire were evacuated, with others advised to shelter in place.…

If You See Something Say Something Year-round, the “If You See Something, Say Something®” campaign works to empower and educate the public on the importance of recognizing the signs of terrorism-related suspicious activity and how to report it to local authorities. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has designated September 25 as “If You See Something, Say Something®” Awareness Day, also known as #SeeSayDay. On this day, DHS and its campaign partners across the country come together to remind the public to be aware of suspicious activity and how to report suspected activity to local authorities.

Vote early for the November 5 General Election Voters are not limited to Election Day to cast their ballot for the November 5 General Election. Registered voters may vote advance in-person any day, including weekends, from October 15 through November 1, 7:00am to 7:00pm, at the Gwinnett Voter Registrations and Elections Office in Lawrenceville and 12 other advance voting locations around the county.
