Happy St Patrick’s Day!!!

Happy St Patrick's Day!!! Monday, March 17, is the holiday to celebrate everything Irish, including St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. St. Patrick is credited with introducing Christianity to Ireland in the 5th century. Legend has it that Patrick died on March 17. People in Ireland started observing a feast day on March 17 in celebration around the ninth or 10th century, according to the History Channel, but the parades to honor it started in America.

EMTs Vs Paramedics – GFES Trainings

All Gwinnett emergency response vehicles are staffed with EMTs and paramedics! But what is the difference between an EMT and a paramedic? EMTs can provide basic life support in a wide range of situations, including cardiac arrest and traumatic injuries. In contrast, paramedics can provide more advanced care and administer a broad range of medications. We train all our personnel to a minimum level of EMT and provide opportunities to progress to advanced EMT and paramedic licensure. We’d love to have you on our team if these careers interest you. Home Safety Survey Program – GCFES

Fire and Emergency Services is always here to support seniors, especially through our Home Safety Survey program. Fire educators can provide a plethora of services through the program, including safety hazard checks for seniors’ homes, installation of smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. Our personnel will also help seniors organize a fire escape plan if a home evacuation is necessary due to an emergency. Firefighters have something in common with Astronauts

Did you know that firefighters have something in common with astronauts? Both wear uniforms made of the same material! Firefighters used to predominantly wear rubber jackets and leather helmets, but modern suits have been redesigned and refashioned with PBI – a high-temperature, fire-resistant polymer also used by NASA personnel in space. When fighting fires, PBI firefighter suits have proven to withstand temperatures of nearly 1300 degrees Fahrenheit! And unlike rubber, PBI fabric doesn’t melt when exposed to incredibly high temperatures. This past weekend's snowfall presented unique challenges for our fire department — ones we don't encounter daily. Our dedicated crews showed remarkable adaptability, overcoming these obstacles while responding to 632 emergencies. They even managed to find moments to relax when their assistance wasn't required. We have a new Jr. Firefighter in this Gwinnett County neighborhood! Thank you to these two adorable young ladies in Gwinnett County, GA, who brought their creativity to life by building a fire fighter snowman in the snowfall of January 2025. The snowman, complete with a firefighter helmet, became a charming and playful tribute to the hardworking heroes of the community.
