For 10 years, the Gwinnett 101 Citizen Academy has given participants a firsthand glimpse into how and why the Gwinnett County Government operates the way it does. Aiming to cultivate informed and engaged residents, students, and business owners in Gwinnett, participants get a behind-the-scenes look at how the County provides high-quality services to the community, meet local leaders, and tour county facilities. The Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office is hosting the Bridge the Gap Community 5K this Saturday, May 31 at Rabbit Hill Park, located at 400 Rabbit Hill Road in Dacula. The event will begin at 8:00am, with warm-up, registration, and packet pick-up from 7:00am to 7:45am. The race will finish by 10:30am. The race entry fee is $35. All proceeds from the race will benefit the Keybo Building Bridges Foundation, which focuses on improving community engagement and addressing disparities. Register today to enjoy a fun-filled event, establish impactful relationships, and support a worthy cause.

When the weather heats up, it’s even more important to make sure kids are hydrated when playing outside. Make sure your child drinks water at least 30 minutes before going outside and every 15 to 20 minutes during playtime. Our Safe Sitter classes provide kids ages 11 to 14 with helpful safety tips for watching younger children, including heat-related emergencies, first aid, and more. We would like to wish a Happy 205th Birthday to Florence Nightingale — the founder of modern nursing! “The Lady with the Lamp” is well remembered for prioritizing sanitation and individual care when treating British soldiers during the Crimean War in 1854. To combat mass infections and low hygiene, Nightingale and her 38 nurses began cleaning every room and stressed handwashing in unsanitary conditions. This helped bring the death rate at her military hospital down from 40 to 2 percent. Always remember to practice both proper sanitation and handwashing!
