Free Car Seat Safety Check

Free Car Seat Safety Check

Serving more than one million residents across Gwinnett’s 437 square miles, our department relies on seamless collaboration with other agencies. Their partnerships extend beyond responding to emergencies, focusing on proactive community engagement through education and outreach programs. This teamwork ensures the safety and well-being of the entire community.

Last month, this collaborative effort was on full display at a free car seat safety check hosted at the Duluth Branch of the Gwinnett County Public Library. The event — a partnership between certified technicians from Gwinnett Fire and Emergency Services, Lilburn Police, and Gwinnett Police — addressed the concerning statistic that approximately 46% of car seats are installed incorrectly, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The safety check served more than 25 parents and caregivers.

Technicians checked car seats for proper installation, correct harness fit, and compliance with current safety standards. They also provided valuable guidance and answered questions, helping families feel more confident about their car seat usage. For a few lucky residents, Gwinnett Police provided brand-new car seats donated by Chadwick communities, one of Gwinnett Police’s registered C.O.P.S. communities.

With National Child Passenger Safety Week approaching next week, this safety check was a timely reminder of the importance of child passenger safety. For more information on future car seat safety checks or other public safety seminars, please email PDCommunityAffairs@GwinnettCounty.com.
