What is “whipline” ?
The auxiliary hoist on a crane is often referred to as a whipline. It is reeved to an auxiliary sheave set on the boom tip, which is often referred to as a rooster or boom nose.
It can be advantageous for making smaller lifts, as it has faster line speed and also keeps the main hoist ropes tight on their drums as they are only used for the heavy lifts with high loading.
