Did you know that firefighters are trained to see an active hazardous materials scene in three separate zones — hot, warm, and cold?
A hot zone is where the most danger is. Only those immediately involved in life safety are allowed into this area.
Firefighters in the warm zone are stationed immediately outside and directly support personnel in the hot zone. They are fully dressed to enter the hot zone, if needed.
The cold zone surrounds both zones and serves as a crowd-control line, a rehabilitation area, and a staging area for media engagement, personnel, and portable equipment.
These zones are established for your safety. Don’t hesitate to call 911 if you see a fire!
