Firefighters encounter a deadly house fire in Lilburn.

Firefighters responded at 6:23 p.m. to a report of a house fire at the 200 block of Sandra Drive in Lilburn. The 911 caller advised that the house was burning, and people were still inside the home.

Two occupants were home at the time of the incident. An occupant noticed the home was on fire and woke his mother to start evacuating. The neighbor states he assisted the mother out of the home before the firefighters’ arrival. After the mother was evacuated, the son reentered the home to rescue the family dog, where he succumbed to the smoke conditions. No smoke alarms were active at the time of the fire. Two adults were affected by and displaced by the fire. The American Red Cross was requested by the homeowner.
