We’re continuing to highlight emergency preparedness.
Do you have emergency alerts enabled for your smartphone. ( Wireless Emergency Alerts — WEA) ?
Wireless Emergency Alerts, also known as WEA, are sent to your mobile device to help keep you safe during an emergency. These alerts inform you of threats and missing people in your area. So be sure not to ignore them.
Most newer model smartphones are WEA-capable. To find out if your phone is WEA-capable, contact your wireless provider or check their website.
If you have an iPhone or Android, you can check by following these steps:
- For iPhones: Go to Settings > Notifications > Scroll to the bottom, and under “Government Alerts” you can enable or disable Amber Alerts and other government alerts.
- For Android: The path may vary slightly depending on your device, but generally, you’ll find WEA settings under “Wireless & Networks” or “Connections” in the settings menu. Look for options like “Cell Broadcasts” or “Emergency Alerts“.
